The Dior Cruise 2023 presentation in Seville has been great news because of what it means that the ‘grand maison’ has picked a Spanish city to launch its emblematic collection of clothes and accessories, and at the same time the opportunity to involve in the show fifteen local artisans that have provided their creations to enhance Dior´s excellent work even more.
The fabulous show celebrated in Seville´s Plaza de España was the culmination of more than a year of hard work, when the artistic director for Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri picked the capital of Seville to host the event and the Andalusian artisanal traditions as an essential part of their models. Maria Grazia´s relationship with handcrafts is not recent. According to what she said to local news, she has been studying embroidery and laces for over 30 years. During her stay in Seville she visited professionals that work with bobbin lace, and golden and silver thread and she admitted that “many times in fashion the very important crafts that are behind making a garment go unnoticed”. “This collection is intended so that, specially young people, realize that behind a textile product exists an artisanal history that expands centuries, sustained by workshops maintained through generations. Trades that need to be given visibility so they can continue”, explained Dior´s artistic director.

The show moved us with garments that enhance and strengthen a feminine and very Mediterranean woman, sieved by the Andalusian idiosyncrasy very present in numerous details, with a nod to our country´s religious devotion.

‘Orfebrería Ramos’ developed an entire line of jewelry about GranVille´s rose as an homage to Moinsineur Dior. There were also hats, with pieces created in the Sevillian workshop by Fernández y Roche. And of course leatherwork, with a clear equestrian inspiration that is so traditional in Andalusia, and in general all over Spain, and that for the occasion they had works from craftsmen like Daniel López-Obrero Carmona or Javier Menacho Guisado.
