MADRID FOR LTBG+ PRIDE

From the 1st to the 10th of July Pride festivities will take place in Madrid, one of the most popular ones in the city and moreover it attracts a great number of foreign visitors that enjoy these days where the level of activism matches the festivities.

The official start will take place on June 28th which is international Pride Day. On this day we remember the Stonewall riots, which take their name from the pub´s name where the riot took place. The pub was in Greenwich Village, a neighborhood in New York and it got raided by the police which provoked a series of spontaneous protests, that for many are considered the seed of public activism of the LGBT movement.

They will be full-fledged parties after two years of restrictions due the pandemic. The epicenter on the festivities is the Plaza de Pedro Zerolo, heart of the neighborhood of Chueca and where the main stage will be installed, from which the official opening proclamation will take place. But it’s not the only hotspot, there will be stages set in Plaza de Callao and in Plaza de España. From the Palacio de Atocha CoolRooms hotel, you can reach any of those spots in a 10 minute walk.

Even though is true that Pride is celebrated all over Madrid, as meetings extend through all the city center bars and in the outskirts. There is some things you cannot miss such as Pride´s race for Diversity, the Madrid Summit (the International Conference of Human Rights where politicians, activists and leaders of the community from all around the world debate about LGBTQIA+ rights), the fun high heel race and, of course, the great main act of Madrid´s Pride: the protest or parade that on the first Saturday on July will unite tens of thousands of people and will traverse the Paseo del Prado from Atocha until it reaches Plaza de Colón.
